Depending on which study you read - 85-90% of the honey you can buy in the grocery store has never seen a flower. Honey producers put feeders of corn syrup outside the hives and the bees make their honey from the corn syrup. Yuck. Some honey producers add corn syrup to extend and maximize their yield; adding corn syrup also makes the honey look nice and translucent on the store shelves. Again = Yuck. Even if some of that honey in the store was real flower nectar, any honey that is not labeled 'raw' has been heated to 160+ degrees. This heating process keeps the honey from crystalizing but may also destroy nutrients, pollen, and other beneficial pieces.
Please buy local honey to ensure you're getting the good stuff! There are many local beekeepers in your area. All you have to do is search for them.
Three 2 oz. jars that range in color from sunshine yellow (spring), to golden (summer), and finally amber (fall) make a stunning presentation gift for any occasion. Maybe you're looking for the perfect array of sweet to savory and don't want to commit to a full jar of heavenly goodness? Maybe you're looking for the perfect gift for the honey connoisseur in your life? The reason doesn't matter because we're all united by our love of honey and good, clean food.
Spring honey - 2 oz included
The last time we had true spring honey was 8 years ago. The conditions have to be just right for the bees to be awake and have their work force up and running in time to catch the blossoms. Here in Pennsylvania it's common for a frost to wipe out many of the blossoms on apple, peach, and other flowering fruit trees. The true spring honey in 2016 has an incredibly light and clean flavor that is unlike any honey you've ever had before. We suspect the bees found a peach tree because the honey has a hint of peaches to it. The taste and quality of this honey classify it as fancy grade which is the highest possible grade for honey.
Summer honey - 2 oz included
Summer honey offers a light and slightly floral taste. The main nectar for this time of year is dandelions and clover. This honey offers a slightly sweeter and hardier taste than the spring honey.
Fall honey - 2 oz included
Fall honey is the darkest and richest of all our honey seasons. Some people describe it as carmel with dark undertones. This is definitely the honey for people who aren't big on sweets and have more of a savory palette. Sunflowers, golden rod and other robust fall flowers lend a mature and complex taste to the honey.
Beefuddled Farms does not feed sugar water or corn syrup to the hives from which we harvest honey. Our hives are never treated with chemicals of any kind; it's common for beekeepers to treat for varroa mites and other pests with formalic acid or other chemicals. You can trust that our honey is the highest quality and has no additives of any kind.
